Alexander has worked for over thirty years to make an art which helps people make sense of their lives and which will reward time spent in contemplation. He first fell in love with the art of painting as a teenager. When he saw an exhibition of Van Gogh’s work in San Francisco in the early Seventies, he knew that what he wanted was to be a painter. He went on to study art at UCLA (BA 1977), after which he moved to New York for six years of “further education.” During the Eighties, he moved to San Francisco, where he worked at and exhibited his art and became active in the art community. Feeling the need for more challenge and more clarity, he attended graduate school at California College of the Arts , Oakland, CA (then CCAC) receiving an MFA (1997) in painting and the Barclay Simpson Award for graduate achievement. Alexander teaches part-time at San Francisco State University, Diablo Valley College, and the Taking the Leap Professional Practices for Artists course in Emeryville, California. He works in his studio full-time. Alexander’s work is in corporate and private collections throughout the United States and in Europe. |
